It's the most touristed square mile in the city — and still worth your time if you know which blocks to trust. Eat in East Village, drink on a rooftop, walk the Embarcadero at sunset, and let the hawkers out front of the Fifth Avenue combo joints do the ranking for you.

Give the afternoon 4 full hours. Havana 1920's official happy-hour menu runs Monday–Friday from 2–6 PM, with $2 croquetas making it easy to send several different bites toward the middle of the table.
An aircraft carrier tied up on Harbor Drive turns out to be the best morning in Downtown.

The lawns run wide and green directly across from the harbor, with a playground at one end and long reflecting pools down the middle.
