Direct Google and Yelp listings establish public review evidence. Reputable reporting adds context. The finished guide keeps the useful conclusions and leaves the private scoring paperwork behind.
Ezra Gonzalez publishes The San Diego List. The publication byline identifies guides assembled through research and editing; it does not claim an unnamed staff visited every place. AI tools assist with research organization and drafting. Sources, decisions and corrections remain the publisher’s responsibility.
This is for locals who want to know their county better and for visitors who need more than a recycled checklist. Rankings take a position, explain the tradeoffs, identify the exact location, and state the logistics that can change the decision.
A source-based guide is labeled as research. When a story includes a visit or interview, it should identify the actual reporter and what they observed. We do not turn customer reviews into invented first-person experiences.

How we rank
A useful guide tells you who a place suits, what makes it different and which detail could change your plans. Rankings should explain a choice, not just award a number.
Official menus, booking pages and public agencies establish practical details. Google and Yelp add attributed customer evidence. Their ratings carry a check date; they are not ratings collected by us.
Rewriting a paragraph does not recheck a kitchen, a ticket price or a trail. Copy updates and source checks have separate dates. Corrections identify what changed, and time-sensitive plans link to the operator.
