The San Diego List*
WEEKEND
About

By locals. For locals. (Visitors welcome.)

The San Diego List is an independent San Diego editorial project built for people who want useful answers about the coast, canyons, restaurants, events, and neighborhoods most guides never reach.

Every guide begins with a defined reader question, a broad candidate pool, and dated source work. Official sites establish current facts. Direct Google and Yelp listings establish public review evidence. Reputable reporting adds context. The finished guide keeps the useful conclusions and leaves the private scoring paperwork behind.

The San Diego List is the organizational byline because research, verification, editing, and publishing are collaborative. The editorial team is accountable for the work through the standards, corrections policy, and contact routes linked on every page.

This is for locals who want to know their county better and for visitors who need more than a recycled checklist. Rankings take a position, explain the tradeoffs, identify the exact location, and state the logistics that can change the decision.

Every ranked place has at least one verified Google or Yelp rating and review count; both platforms are attempted. We also check open status, official details, recent review patterns, and material safety or access issues before publication.

“Useful local guides should show their work.”

How we rank

Researched obsessively

Every list starts with dozens of candidates and most don’t survive. We dig through what people are actually saying right now — not what a press release said five years ago.

Cross-checked everywhere

Every place shows at least one verified Google or Yelp rating with its review count; we attempt both and never fill a gap by guessing. We also confirm open status, check the hours, and date the evidence.

Kept current

Rankings decay. Kitchens change hands, patios close, the line stops being worth it. Our editors revisit each list as places change, and the updated date on every list is real.

Send us a tip.

Share an opening, changed menu, new event, closure, or omission we should investigate. Sponsored or hosted work is always labeled, and a spot on a ranking can never be bought. Evidence — not access — decides what appears in the guide.

Corrections & tips

Spot something wrong — a closed kitchen, changed hours, a ranking you can argue against with evidence? Email editor@thesandiegolist.com. Corrections ship in the next update cycle; good arguments sometimes reorder a list.
