Swim La Jolla Shores in San Diego's Warmest-Water Month
The water here is as warm as San Diego water gets, and August is when it gets there — 68.4°F on NOAA's long-term La Jolla table, the top of the whole year. That is still cold enough that a long swim wants a wetsuit, and upwelling can pull the number back down in a day. What the Shores gives you is the easiest version of a real ocean swim in this city: broad sand, a permanent lifeguard station, a flat walk from the lot to the water, showers for after. Shuffle your feet going in, because stingrays sit in that sand.
