San Diego Zoo Safari Park
The habitats out here are enormous, and that changes what a day with animals feels like — you cover real ground before something big walks into view, and the walking is half of why it lands. Close-range animal encounters are the other draw, and the landscaping between them is good enough to slow you down. Size has its costs: heat, distance, admission, queues. Start at opening and treat the back half of the afternoon as optional.
