OCTOBER
Come in October if You Want the Best of It
October earns the top spot by giving a coast-and-city trip unusually balanced numbers. NOAA NCEI's 1991–2020 normals list a 74.6°F daytime high and 0.50 inches of monthly rain at San Diego Lindbergh Field. The agency's coastal table gives La Jolla a 65.6°F October monthly average water temperature. None of those figures promises the exact day you will get, but together they support an itinerary that can include beach time, outdoor neighborhoods, and a long dinner without making swimming the only reason to come. Keep a light evening layer, check the daily forecast, and leave room to change direction. If your dates are flexible and you want one month that does several things well, circle October first. October earns that top spot by doing all of it at once.
Monthly normals are planning context, not a daily forecast or swimmer-safety guarantee.
