Captain Shaun Uyeda runs the Defiance 290 Guadalupe, and it carries six people at most. The Coastal Catch & Cruise leaves at 6 AM, 9:30 AM, 1 PM or 4:30 PM, and it was listed at $825 on the Wanu and $1,025 on the Swell Chaser. Each boat is certified by the Coast Guard for up to six. The captain, deckhand, tackle, bait and fish cleaning are included. Captain Chris books every trip himself, and the company runs kid-friendly trips, which makes it a natural fit for families with young anglers.

Point Loma Sportfishing runs a schedule for people who can't take the whole day off. The landing on Scott Street in Point Loma sends out an 8:30 AM half day, a 3 PM half day, a 5:30 AM full day and a 9 PM overnight, and multi-day trips go all the way up to 16 days.

That afternoon half day is the one to know about. Sleep in, grab lunch, and still get a few hours on the water. Half-day fares were listed from $77.63 to $82.80, a full day at $258.75 (bring your passport for that one) and a two-day trip at $1,133.
