The neighborhood itself

Bonita is a green seam between Chula Vista and San Diego, with horse-country traces, a broad public park, and a surprisingly concentrated run of food along Bonita Road. The strongest plan is compact: pastry first, a long outdoor loop, one hour of local history, then Baja-Med dinner or the original oyster counter. Five verified places are enough to make that plan useful without padding it.

Know before you go

Exact counter: TJ Oyster has sibling locations nearby — this guide uses only the original 4246 Bonita Road branch

Short hours: the museum opens Wed–Sat, Hans & Harry's closes Sunday, and TJ Oyster closes Monday

Park: bring water for Rohr's less-shaded stretches and verify the scale-model train schedule before promising a ride

1
Hans & Harry's Bakery
fresh-fruit strudel + go-early pastry case · $

The fruit strudel is the whole reason to be here, and the fruit in it is still bright when it reaches you.

2
Romesco Mexiterranean Bistro
Baja-Med tostadas and tapas · $$$

Baja and the Mediterranean on one menu sounds like a stretch until the short-rib tacos land.

3
TJ Oyster Bar
the original fish-taco counter · $$

The original counter at 4246 is small enough that the line stands right up against the people eating, and that turns out to be the best thing about it.

An hour in here and the rest of Bonita makes more sense.
