Burma Place
Burma Place is the restaurant that can turn Rancho Bernardo into the reason for dinner, not just the place you happened to be. Start with the fermented tea leaf salad: romaine, fried yellow beans, garlic chips, seeds and nuts, all crunching at a different speed around the tangy tea leaves. Then bring out the mohinga, fresh vermicelli and catfish in the aromatic broth the kitchen describes as Burma's national dish. The plant-based side of the menu runs deep, so a table split between tofu, vegetables and meat does not have to settle for one shared compromise. Lunch is a lovely way to do it, but dinner works if you remember the afternoon closure. Order the salad for everyone, add samosas or garlic noodles, then fill out the table from there.
