The neighborhood itself
12 verified places · 11 eat & drink and 1 things-to-do listsBankers Hill is the run of Fourth and Fifth Avenue between Elm Street and Upas, with Balboa Park along the east edge and the canyons dropping away to the west. Craftsman and Spanish Colonial houses, a line of towers facing the park, medical offices in between. Spruce and Quince cross their own canyons on footbridges built in 1912 and 1905, and you can still walk both.
The neighborhood eats at night. Doors on this stretch mostly stay shut until 4 or 5 PM, and then the whole street turns on at once — house pasta and a retail wine shelf at Laurel and Fifth, a sushi counter two blocks down, live jazz on Fourth, and a dining room 12 floors up with the skyline pressed against the glass.
Daytime lives on two patios. Parc opens at 11 on weekdays for steak frites under heaters, and North Park Beer Company pours from 11 every day across two heated patios that take dogs. Almost everything else on Fifth holds until 4.
Park once on Fifth, walk to dinner, and finish with cake on Fourth.

Timing: most kitchens on Fourth and Fifth open at 4 or 5 PM; Parc opens at 11 AM on weekdays and 9 AM on weekend mornings, and WetStone is dark on Mondays
