The 6 Best Restaurants in Clairemont & Bay Park, Ranked

Six kitchens worth the drive between Morena Boulevard and Clairemont Mesa — classic Italian, charcoal yakitori, sushi with a patio, tonkatsu, a neighborhood fish counter, and an all-vegetarian kitchen.

NeighborhoodsClairemont & Bay Park

Baci Ristorante is the best restaurant in Clairemont and Bay Park. It is a family-run Italian dining room on Morena Boulevard where the pasta and the seafood are cooked the way they have been for decades, and the service is the kind you notice. Book a table.

Everything else here is a drive. Morena, Clairemont Mesa and Bay Ho are separate clusters rather than one walkable run of restaurants, so pick the place first and park once. What that gets you is a charcoal counter, a tonkatsu specialist, a sushi room with a patio, a fish counter running a happy hour every day of the week, and an all-vegetarian kitchen on Clairemont Mesa.

Three of these close on Monday, so check before you commit to the drive. Then stay where you land — you only need to get the choice right once.

For the wider area, open the Clairemont and Bay Park neighborhood guide. The citywide sushi ranking covers the rest of the county, and the oyster happy-hour guide is worth reading before you build a Thursday around Bay Park Fish Company.

Our pick

Baci Ristorante

MORENA BOULEVARD$$$CLASSIC ITALIANSINCE 1979

Baci has been on Morena Boulevard since 1979 and still runs like a proper dining room: a family operation, servers who know the menu cold, pasta and seafood cooked the classic way rather than the current way. The menu chases nothing, and that is exactly why it holds up. This is the most complete dinner between Morena and Clairemont Mesa. Book ahead, and dress like you meant to be there.

Order this
a current house pasta + the evening seafood special
Heads up
Reserve — the week here is short and this is not a room that absorbs walk-ins.
Tue-Sat 5-9:30 PM; lunch Thu-Fri 11:30 AM-2 PM; closed Sun-Mon

Yakitori Taisho

CLAIREMONT MESA$$$BINCHO CHARCOALRESERVATIONS

Everything at Taisho comes off bincho charcoal, and control over that fire is the whole skill. Skewers land one or two at a time in an order somebody thought about, and the sake list is deep enough to keep pace with them. The room is tiny, which is why this is a counter you book rather than a place you drift into with five friends. Sit at the counter, watch the fire, and give the kitchen the whole evening.

Order this
a chef-guided skewer progression + sake
Heads up
Reserve. Same-night availability is unreliable, and a group walk-in is optimistic.

Chef JUN — Bay Ho

BAY HO$$$SUSHIDINNER ONLY

The uni is the tell. The Bay Ho room puts out sashimi cut from fish that clearly arrived recently, in portions bigger than the price implies, and the tasting menu is the version of the night where somebody else does the choosing. The dining room is small and gets loud once it fills, which makes the patio the seat worth asking for. Take it on a warm evening and let the fish run the meal.

Order this
the current sashimi selection + the tasting menu when available
Heads up
Dinner service only. Book the exact Bay Ho address — the sibling branch keeps its own schedule and its own reservations.

EE NAMI Tonkatsu Izakaya

CLAIREMONT MESA$$TONKATSUOSAKA-STYLE IZAKAYA

The tonkatsu comes out crisp and somehow not greasy, which is the hardest trick in the category and reason enough to plan a night around Clairemont Mesa. Everything is fried to order, so it arrives hot and stays that way. The menu runs wider than the name promises — karaage, sashimi that is genuinely fresh, katsu that goes past pork — without ever losing the Osaka izakaya thread holding it together. Go early in the dinner service and take your time with it.

Order this
tonkatsu + scallop katsu to share
Heads up
The kitchen closes between lunch and dinner, and the compact room fills quickly.

Bay Park Fish Company

BAY PARK$$SEAFOODDAILY HAPPY HOUR
4.6 Google (1,641) Verified Jul 18, 2026

This is the one you use on an ordinary Wednesday. Fresh fish, fish tacos, a chowder to order every single time, and a room where nobody minds how you are dressed — Bay Park Fish Company has been the neighborhood's default long enough that going there works like a habit. The happy hour runs every day from 3 to 6, which is the smartest window to walk into. Get there inside it and ask what is best today.

Order this
the day's best simply grilled fish + clam chowder
Heads up
Thursday oysters run 3-6 PM or while supplies last, and they go. Service runs at counter pace once the room is full.

Sipz Clairemont

CLAIREMONT MESA$VEGETARIAN & VEGANWEEKEND SUSHI

Sipz started here on Clairemont Mesa and it is still the only kitchen in these blocks with no meat in it at all — entirely vegetarian, most of it vegan, cooking across Asia rather than picking a lane. The menu runs long and the plates come out big. There is vegan sushi too, actual rolls with no fish in them, which is worth building a weekend around. Bring the friend who never gets a say in where everybody eats.

Order this
the creamy walnut shrimp, plus a couple of plates for the middle of the table
Heads up
Vegan sushi is a weekend-only menu, so time the trip if that is what you came for. You can also order ahead online.
Daily 10:30 AM-9 PM; vegan sushi Fri-Sun 4-9 PM

Common questions

What is the best restaurant in Clairemont or Bay Park?

Baci Ristorante, on Morena Boulevard. Classic Italian cooking, a family-run room, and service that still behaves like service. It is the area's most complete sit-down dinner and it takes reservations, which on these blocks is worth something on its own.

Where should I eat Japanese food in Clairemont?

Yakitori Taisho for bincho-charcoal skewers and a deep sake list, EE NAMI for tonkatsu fried to order, and Chef JUN in Bay Ho for sashimi and uni. All three work out of small rooms, so check the schedule or book before you drive.

Is Clairemont actually any good for food?

Yes, once you accept that it is a driving neighborhood. The strength here is specialists — a bincho-charcoal counter, a tonkatsu kitchen, a sushi room in Bay Ho, a fish counter in Bay Park, an all-vegetarian kitchen on Clairemont Mesa — plus one classic Italian dining room on Morena Boulevard.

Is Bay Park Fish Company worth going to?

Yes — fresh fish, chowder, fish tacos, and a happy hour that runs every day from 3 to 6. Thursday oysters land in that same window and sell out, so arrive early inside it rather than at the end.

Which of these are open on a Monday?

Bay Park Fish Company, 11 AM to 8 PM, and Sipz Clairemont, 10:30 AM to 9 PM. Baci, Yakitori Taisho and EE NAMI are all closed that day. Chef JUN runs dinner only, so confirm the exact evening before you drive over.

Where can I get sushi in Clairemont or Bay Park?

Chef JUN in Bay Ho, for sashimi, uni and the tasting menu when it is running. EE NAMI also puts out fresh sashimi alongside the tonkatsu, which is the move when half the table wants fried food and the other half wants raw fish. Sipz Clairemont runs a vegan sushi menu, but only from 4 to 9 PM Friday through Sunday.

Where can I eat vegetarian or vegan in Clairemont?

Sipz Clairemont, at 5501 Clairemont Mesa Blvd. The whole kitchen is vegetarian and most of it is vegan, the menu runs across Asia, and it is open daily from 10:30 AM to 9 PM. The vegan sushi is the weekend addition.

Do I need a reservation?

For Baci and Yakitori Taisho, yes — both rooms are small and same-night seats are unreliable. EE NAMI and Chef JUN are worth booking too. Bay Park Fish Company runs at counter pace, so you can turn up and order.

Where should I eat in Bay Park specifically?

Bay Park Fish Company for fresh fish and the daily happy hour. Baci is also on Morena Boulevard, a short drive away, and Chef JUN is over in Bay Ho. Those three cover a casual lunch, a proper dinner and a sushi night without leaving the area.
