Happy Medium is the best bar in North Park, and the giveaway is the sandwich
that shows up next to a cocktail you could not have described before you
ordered it. It sits open to 30th Street, it starts early on weekends, and it is
the one room here that can absorb an entire group with different plans for the
evening.
Almost all of this is walkable. Five of the nine are strung along 30th Street
and three more sit on University Avenue, which means the second round is a
two-minute decision and the third one is a shorter walk than the argument about
where to go.
The range on those blocks is wider than a bar crawl usually gets: a taproom, a
cider house, a listening room, a sports bar with a real kitchen, a Spanish
wine cellar with a shop attached, and a seafood kitchen that takes its
gin and tonics as seriously as its oysters.
Go on a weeknight if you want to hear anyone. Pick the room by what you want in
the glass and let the blocks handle the rest.
