The neighborhood itself

San Marcos makes sense when you connect its hills, lakes, and north-side destinations instead of searching for one walkable center. Use the parks in daylight, choose a meal with a reason behind it, and leave enough margin for the short drives between them. The result feels like a deliberate North County day rather than a collection of freeway exits.

Know before you go

Summit gate: Double Peak's City page omits daily gate hours — verify the closing time before committing to sunset

Lake rules: Discovery Lake does not allow swimming or wading; the splash pad closes November 15–March 14

Music timing: TERI's useful window is schedule-driven — confirm Sunday bluegrass or the Friday/Saturday dinner set before driving
